It's been a LONG time coming, but we are finally moved into the yurts! We got the okay from the Inspector at 2 pm January 6th and by 7 pm we had our mattresses here, ready to spend our first night, in our new place! Our first goal for moving in was October, then November, then the end of November, then Christmas, and now here we are two weeks post move ... This process has been a real challenge to say the least! I'm so glad we are no longer trying to heat and maintain two places!
If I can be really honest, and super vulnerable, I had high hopes of noticing big changes, with my health, right away. I haven't though! I have been less stuff up, which is nice, but I had hoped to see more progress. I know I need to give my body time to heal. I've struggled with my health for the last 10 years ... I know that won't be fixed in two weeks, but still I had hoped for more. I had also hoped that we'd be able to figure out some of the challenges of yurt living a little faster than we are ...
One of the huge issues with the yurts are the domes. With the cold outside and the heat inside, we deal with a lot of condensation. This leads to dripping down the rafters and onto different parts of the house. Also, with ice build-up around the perimeter, where the wall meets the roof, we are struggling with condensation, along the inner wall, where the rafters meet at roof/wall. This leads to a lot of wet wood, which could result in ... MOLD ... the one thing I'm desperately trying to avoid!
I still feel like this is working out for our family. We have more space than before, and the girls have room to run around and play. The way we have the space set up is far more functional than the cabin. Not to mention that we have a shower, flushing toilet, full fridge, dishwasher, and full stove! You'd never notice the difference these things make until you go without for a year!
We have a long way to go! Being honest, again, I'm not feeling awesome today, and definitely not overly optimistic, but I'm trying to keep my hopes up that this move is going to be good for our family. I'm setting a goal to blog more often, so I will certainly keep any of you out there posted!
Until next time ...
The little yurt after getting the girls' bunk bed and dressers moved in.
