Today was a big day for us!  We are one step closer to having the floors done, in our yurts, and therefore one step closer to getting moved in!  The last part of the floor project is the epoxy, which will be arriving (from Menards via my brother-in-law) tomorrow!  Happy Thanksgiving to us!  

The floors have been a huge, time consuming project!  There's been a lot of sweeping, mopping, polishing, and paint spraying that has gone into this.  This is a project that I really wanted to be a part of, so it had to be done when we had childcare, and I could go over to the site to work.  I think we will have clocked about 8-10 hours of work just on the floors alone.  I'm not sure that the floors will actually look like we spent that much time on them, but Matt and I will never forget how much time, and backache (literally) this floor cost us!

This is a picture of the small yurt, which will serve as  the bedroom for our kiddos.  We had initially decided on a natural finish epoxy (we were concerned the glossy would be too slippery for the girls), but after applying it to the bathroom, in the big yurt, we've decided we'd rather have a glossy finish.  I'll be excited to see this project finished, and be able to move onto something a little more interesting, and hopefully less painful!

The Floors Are Done!

We finished our floors!  Thank God!  What a process!  Having the floors done opens up a world of opportunities to keep moving and hopefully move in soon!  First off, although we can't actually start living there yet (without a few things being built to code and having the okay from the inspector), we can now start moving some of our things into the yurts.  Small items that are currently being stored, and might as well be stored there instead of where we are currently living.  We may even move some furniture that we can do without for the next couple of weeks.  I'm so glad we are able to move forward and be done with the floors!  What a headache!

We also FINALLY have the plumber coming next week!  This means I'm one step closer to finally being able to do laundry and take showers more regularly again (we are currently in a two room cabin on my in-laws' property that only has a 4 gallon hot water heater and just a tub ... no shower ... and of course no washer and dryer).  It feels like we can, maybe, start breathing a little bit again!  We've had a lot of people very skeptical about how life in yurts is actually going to work out.  We live in Wisconsin, so there is the big question of heat.  We did get extra insulation with the yurts when we purchased them.  We are also planning to put some extra insulation inside the yurts.  The biggest thing that is different from our Yurt home, than regular yurts, is that we put our yurts on a concrete slab with in-floor heat.  This is unlike the normal yurt setup where you build a wooden platform to connect them to.  We've already had a cold snap and the yurts have stayed fairly warm without us actually living there and firing the outdoor wood furnace more frequently.  Our yurts will have full plumbing as well, with all of the modern amenities (washer, dryer, dishwasher, shower, etc.).  

It has been quite the week, and with the Thanksgiving feast with family, we are exhausted, but thankful!  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!  See you next time!
